I have worked as a journalist in print, broadcast and new media for over 20 years. The media companies I worked for include Turkey’s leading news TV channels CNN Turk and NTV as well as BBC World Service in London.
In addition to the anchoring roles that I have taken, I managed a staff of 30 while I was at NTV, provided training to young Arab reporters when I worked with Kuzey News Agency and developed and managed my own projects such as “People Are not Numbers” at the Bilgi University which I designed as a hands-on documentary course on Syrian refugees in Istanbul.
Over the last two decades I have also developed a strong international portfolio of contacts from around the world in the fields of journalism, academia and civil society organisations.
I have also been invited to give speeches or act as a moderator at national and international conferences on media, human rights, civil society initiatives, migration issues and Middle East politics.
During my broadcast career, together with the positions that I have taken as a journalist I have also provided simultaneous and consecutive interpretations and translations for studio guests, live coverage, press conferences, speeches, meetings, telephone calls.
